Dave, from my perspective it doesn't cost anything - its an investment. That's what I tell my clients. You spend money to make more money.

A budget really depends on what AMD's goals are. They haven't been forthcoming enough in their objectives for next year to make that call. From what I can tell, they're trying to dominate the high end and enter the business arena. An effective National Cable effort targeting CXOs could run anywhere from $10M upwards. If they want more mass market consumer, a National Television effort would require at least $20M. Those are annual figures. Going after Intel is not cheap. A full-scale national advertising effort to increase market share, demand, visibility, consumer awareness would probably cost around $50M annually. The cost of staying in business.

AMD needs to stop being reactionary and be more proactive.
