I rented Random Harvest yesterday. Spectacular! All of the above are in black-and-white.

I think what is going on with me, Rose, is that discovering a great old star and studying her career is making me feel mortal. I had only vaguely heard of her up until a few weeks ago. She was little more than a strange name on the Academy Award list up until then. The only movie in which I had seen her as late as a few weeks ago was 1966's The Singing Nun. That was well beyond her "glory days." Prior to the advent of classic movie cable channels, seeing old movies was next to impossible.

The whole process is encouraging me to "live." I'm considering some very serious life moves, such as a move to Ireland. Polvie's post about his 50-year-old friend dying suddenly is striking a nerve in me as well.

This year has been very fascinating. It's causing me to reflect about my purpose in this short life. My father's only brother died last Thursday and that too is causing me to be very introspective these days.

My losses in the market year are seriously affecting my psyche. I am analyzing my blessings more: intelligence, health, and freedom. I don't want to squander those gifts. My Cuban trips triggered a recognition of them two years ago. My financial losses since have compelled me to treasure them more and not languish in a pit of foolish self-pity.
