Thread, RE: "As executive vice president, Splinter [is] responsibl[e] for the successful ramp of key high-performance products. This includes ...Intel® Pentium® III...new 0.13-micron ....Pentium® 4 processor"
Good - Intel understands the importance of the old business. Splinter is now the person in charge of making sure there are no screw ups or potential resource allocation issues.
RE: "In his new role, Splinter will work closely with Paul Otellini"
Let's hope he works very closely with Paul.
As a reminder, Paul O did not give serious consideration over a question from an analyst regarding Intel's faulty product launches at the Spring CC - Paul O had punted on the question and conveyed an attitude that was the opposite of paranoid.
So, I'm glad to hear that Barrett has decided to put someone, such as Splinter, in sole charge of Intel's launches, and to be held accountable for the successful execution of Intel's launches.
RE: "Otellini will take on sole management of the Intel Architecture Group, with direct responsibility for...Intel® Itanium(TM)"
This is important to note: Otellini, not Splinter, is in charge of Itanium's launch.
RE: "Craig Barrett, Intel president and chief executive officer, said, ...and Paul Otellini have all the resources under their control needed to move faster and be more successful in this area."
Good, Barrett has promised that Itanium has all the resources needed for a successful launch. Let's hope Otellini delivers.
