Rambi, there are all ready more regulations on guns then there is for swimming pools or cars. Convicted felons can buy pools or cars after they get out of jail. No state imposes a waiting period for cars or pools. Even someone who has had there liscenced revoked can own or buy a car, they just can not legally operate it on public roads. There are few regulations about private pools or cars that are kept on private property. You can make pools of any shape or size or depth without the government caring, but saw off a shotgun to far and your a felon. A pool or car design that is safe when used properly will not be singled out to be banned because some congressman or state legislator thinks it looks scary, but certain semi-auto rifles are banned because they have a flash supressor or bayonet lug or
folding stock.
