It is quite common for software companies to ship customers the entire product suite and then only allow the portion of the software purchased to be 'turned on' by the customer. And all of those companies knew EXACTLY what their sales were by product line. I guarantee you that Oracle knows exactly how much each app is bringing in towards the bottom line. That's why they knew they could give away a portion of their CRM package. Because it wasn't bringing anything in.

I see Oracles inability to report numbers by app product line to be another confirmation of how far ahead Siebel is. The CRM game is OVER. Only Siebel and niche players will survive. Oracle will sell a few of their CRM products to their existing customers but that is about it. PeopleSoft/Vantive will do the same. Clarify is still competition but their product line is getting more honed into meeting NT's long term goal of being the 'total solution' to the major telco companies (i.e. providing everything from the hardware to the software to the folks to install and maintain the network). The game we should be keeping a close eye out for now is where is Siebel headed for it's next *tornado*. "e-"... something.. something.. is my guess. Speaking of 'knowing the future' .. where is Syborg hiding these days??
