ZTE Obtains Networking License for BSSs
Beijing, China, September 30, 2000 - ZXC10-BSS Base Station System (BSS) for CDMA network of ZTE Co., the leader of networking vendors, passed networking test by MII (Ministry of Information Industry) and model approval test by State Radio Committee (SRC) recently.
Seven scientists carry out the networking test at Beijing Mobile Communication Equipment Test Center (BMCETC), a subsidiary of MII. The BSS met all requirements for 118 parameters. The 800- and 1800-MHz systems also met SRC¡¯s all requirements. The scientists were satisfied with the systems¡¯ excellent performance. This is imperative for the products to be deployed in China and other countries.
BSS, including 800- and 1800-MHz BSSs, is the core of CDMA network. ZTE developed a CDMA switching system in May 1999 that interoperates with devices from Ericsson, LG, Nortel Network, and other networking vendors. It showed a complete CDMA network based on IS-95A/B specification on Shanghai International Telecommunication Exhibition in June 2000, which comprises CDMA switches, CDMA base stations and handsets, and supports smooth migration to cdma2000 1X and cdma2000 3X through software upgrade. This shows ZTE can compete with overseas networking vendors in networking solutions.
ZTE started to develop CDMA technologies in 1995, and got support from State Development Planning Commission (SDPC) in March 1998. Over 500 professionals develop CDMA devices, about 300 of them involve BSS development. We established a research organization in United States to develop CDMA technologies, which is member of Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA, www.tiaonline.org).
In addition, ZTE participates national CDMA standardization. We drafted Test Specification for 800-MHz CDMA Mobile Telecommunication Network: Base Station Part, and Test Specification for 800-MHz CDMA Mobile Telecommunication Network: Mobile Application Part, with MII.
These two tests have paved the way for ZXC10-BSS system to be widely deployed in Chinese market, and indicate that our CDMA networking solution keeps abreast with other vendors¡¯ devices.
It¡¯s reported that Shenzhen Telecom will offer CDMA service in October 1, 2000. Its network, based on ZTE¡¯s 1900 CDMA solution, will offer customers mobile service in Yantian District in the first phase.
The carrier began to install the CDMA network in September 12, 2000, and finished installation and test before September 25. This is the first commercial CDMA network constructed with local manufactured devices in China. Besides, the carrier installed a CDMA BSS near China Hi-Tech Fair center to alleviate communication congestion.
Before that, ZTE had installed and run an 800-MHz CDMA test office in Nanjing, which is part of Nanjing MAN (metropolitan area network) operated by China Unicom
