Korean Carriers Debut In Vietnam's CDMA Market

2000-10-10 :

Korean mobile phone carriers are to make inroads into the Vietnamese telecommunications market for code division multiple access (CDMA) system, according to industry
sources.

The sources said that SK Telecom, LG Electronics and Dong-A Elecom have jointly concluded a business cooperation contract with Saigon Postel in Ho Chi Minh City.

The 15-year contract calls for involved companies to share profit by pursuing joint business project without establishing a joint venture company.

Korean companies will set up SLD Telecom to offer capital, equipment and technical training for the project, while the Vietnamese company is performing businesses within Vietnam. Korean side will enjoy 75% of the profit out of the
business until they collect their investment and 55% after it, according to the contract.

A total of US$180 million of investment is required for the project, which will be dominated by SK Telecom and LG with a 53.8% and a 44% stake, respectively.
