Uh, well-regulated militia. Comments on that part? I think dissecting this 18th century document in a 21st century context is absurd. You have to look at what the framers intended, but then you have to advance it to current state of affairs. After you do that, you have to look at the principles as have been historically applied.

The framers intended that people be allowed to have the small hand carried firearms of the time, including ones that were like those used by the military. If you think any
part of the Constitution is absurd then you should lobby to have it amended, not support ignoring it.

As for the reserves - 1. They are subject to federal order as well as state control. They are equipped by and mostly paid for by the federal government. 2 - The states are government entities. Rights "of the people" in the constitution refer to individual rights, not the rights of state or federal governments.

As for well regulated militia - A militia that had some orginization would likely be more effective then a rag tag collection of untrained people with guns. However the 2nd amendment doesn't give any rights to the militia, it gives the rights to the people.
