G.Lite is glorified V.90, so G.Lite may well be dead. This is actually good news for real ADSL, because the comparatively slow speed of G.Lite would reflect badly on real ADSL. I thought you were supposed to be a technical type...

This sounds like one of those 1999 arguments that didn't make sense then and still doesn't make sense today.

- If G.Lite is not important then why are all chip makers producing ADSL chips that support the G.Lite standard?

- You do know that G.Lite is not limited to 1.5 Mbps. G.Lite can achieve speeds up to 5 Mbps.

- How many people do you know that have an ADSL connection over 5 Mbps? How many people have an ADSL connection over 1.5 Mbps?

Many think that before we see a unified ADSL standard we will see an update to both G.Lite and G.DMT standards. Nortel has even proposed completely eliminating a speed limitation from the working G.Lite.bis standard.
