<<Duff, my impression is that the ratio of garbage posters is much higher on Yahoo than on SI. Do you agree with this assessment, and if so, any idea why?>>

Sure the Yahoo garbage ratio is much higher. As Sector pointed out over the weekend the racial posts were at an all time high. I don't mind the shorts posting baseless posts like "25 by the weekend" anymore than some longs who post similar predictions "80 by Friday" etc. Annoying but tolerable. Also Yahoo has a lot of "Spam" posts. I haven't noticed any over here. I do find the racial posts troubling. I wonder how widespread this hatred runs. I feel a little sheltered. I used up my 100 ignores mostly on the "spammers". Over the weekend I zeroed out a lot of the spammers and added in the racial bigots.

The Yahoo poster base is vastly greater than is the SI base. With so many eyes out there combing the web for MRV news somebody on Yahoo usually comes up with the "new item" before its noticed anywhere else including SI or the wire services. Also there is a core group of Yahoo posters that I've gotten to know and trust. I realize the larger Yahoo poster base by itself does not explain the larger "fraction" of garbage posts. The only explanation I can come up is the SI "pay filter". Evidently if you have to pay to post than on the average you post less garbage or nonsense. Must be a rule of human nature.

I also like SI a lot. The average SI poster appears to be more knowledgeable than the Yahoo "wild wild west". My NDB sponsored SI membership expires in 11 months. After that I'll be looking to see if one of you care to sponsor me with a free lifetime membership if that offer still exists on SI.
