Dear Tejek:

There is no shortage (for those willing to pay the price) of heating oil. You can simply order it from your friendly neighborhood supplier. Its just that Gore seems to want lower prices in his base states in the Northeast for it (for those who believe it was not politically motivated, I have some "land" to sell you). When Gore came here after the RFG price spike to over $2 a gallon, he stated that there is no shortage here so we must not use the SPR to drop prices. Well, the same thing is true in the NE. They have adaquate supplies, just high prices like we did (or so Gore claimed). If they wanted to help the poor people in the NE, they could do what we do in the Midwest, dole out heating cost assistance to those in need.

I repeat, there is no shortage of heating oil in the NE. The definition that Gore used on us earlier in this year, is that a shortage means that there is not enough fuel at any price to satisfy the needs of an area. He then pointed to the common example of the Arab Oil Embargo in the 70's. Well, by the Clinton's own DOE, there is not any shortage of heating oil in the NE or anywhere in the US. It is that the price went up to 50% more than last year. Yeah, some shortage (of cheap heating oil)!

Pete

As to the school girl, I read that in various newspapers (including our left leaning Milwaukee Journal).
