Brian, OT I voted Republican once, Reagan v Carter. I believe it was a mistake. My financial situation will probably benefit more from a Bush presidency, but I believe the nation will benefit from a Gore victory. I believe that the future of American democracy will require "social engineering" to protect American workers from the inevitable effects of the "internationalization" of our economy. Free trade and free markets benefit the society of the whole world, but they tend to bring American wage rates down to world levels or they export jobs entirely to to low wage rate areas. Any American worker whose job can be performed adequately elsewhere will suffer. This applies to skilled labor such as software engineer or other engineering disciplines. To maintain our republic, the government must provide support to lower and middle income workers in the form of tax cuts and cash stipends, medical care, and financial aid for housing, children's education, and aged relative's care. The money for this must come from the businesses and individuals that are profiting from the free trade and markets and the opportunity to exploit lower cost labor overseas. Cary
