How disgusting, that mexicanos would treat a human being in this manner ... unless he's done something immoral, in which case they should state it in plain terms along with the evidence to support the charge ... what do you wanna bet they're hiding something?
Well... I do not believe that being an sob is exclusive to a particular nationality. It is more akin to our dark side of human nature, (particularly the way we all have been brought up overall).
As for Mexican officials, I believe they can be one of the meanest bastards if they really want to. (remember 1968 ?)
From the second url:
Diplomats here said they could only speculate on why the government had seized and deported Mr. Riera. One said because Mr. Riera's work here included recruiting Mexican officials, it was possible that Mexico wanted to avoid a potential spy scandal in the government.
Spy scandal ? you mean spying against its own citizens ? since I do not believe that the Mexicans were/have been plotting against .... who ? Guatemala ? hahahahaha.
I am not too sure... Once he is in the hands of the Cubans, (as he is now), what assures the specific official(s), who would be worried about Mr. Rieira's singing in the first place, that he would not sing to the Cuban's ears?
To me (and I confess I am no CIA, MI6, Mosad, or KGB expert), it sounds more as some kind of personal pi** off situation with someone at the top. Or... some kind of pressure from somewhere else, whose intentions, we pedestrians have no idea as to what the desire effect may be... However ---> read this, from the first url:
In conversations in Mexico City with his advocates, Mr. Castellanos and two reporters, Mr. Riera, 49, said he started working as a spy in 1973. He was in Europe, Africa and Mexico, and ran operations aimed at discrediting or disrupting the Central Intelligence Agency, he said.M
Perhaps here is where the source of the harsh treatment is. Someone really mad at the CIA (or whatever), has put pressure on the Mexican gov. to give him the boot.
You think ?
... or else it does not make sense... I do not see the Cuban government putting pressure on the Mexican government to return Mr. Reira to Cuba, "just because" [we are the big bad Cuban government and if you don't do what we say, we won't buy Mexican frijoles no more].
It sounds really too strange, a d yes, disgusting very much so... Imagine what Castro's compadres are going to do with him... Cuban hamburger for sharks in the Caribbean ?
So much for the Latin-American "brother-hood"... *g*
I took off the book mark of this thread and others that are similar...
