Bush's plan projects the debt paid off in 2016, given assumptions that probably won't come true. Paying off debt is not the panacea you and Greenspan believe it to be. Many people live off the interest from that debt. Many folks buy their prescription drugs and food with that interest. gore on the other hand claims he'll pay off the debt by 2012, which will probably be false, also. However, he'll start additional programs that will escalate well beyond his economic assumptions. In fact the debt will spiral, social security will remain broken, and medicare will make HMO's look like utopia.knc
