I'm so glad to see you and your always sound, logical analysis.
I know very little about the military- and your post was interesting. Personally I think government waste is so pervasive that I'm sure your comment about a 200+ billion budget being sufficient is true. I bet that if managed with some fiscal responsibility and less waste and graft, it would suffice and then some.

Do we have to have actual "threats" to justify a strong military? It seems we are often called upon to be the peacekeepers, the guardians, the tough guys, the enforcers for causes and countries other than our own. Do we need a bigger stick for this reason?
And of course, you just can't ignore that alien invasion thing.
But more money? No, I agree with you- ask the tough questions first and demand answers. But I don't know that either party is going to give us that, do you?
