Bombardier Aerospace: Challenger Accident Statement

NEW ORLEANS, LA.--OCTOBER 10, 2000 - 20:52 EDT
A Bombardier Challenger test aircraft, being
operated by a crew of three Bombardier Flight Test personnel, two
pilots and a flight test engineer, crashed on takeoff at Wichita's
Mid-Continent Airport at approximately 3:00 p.m. this afternoon.
According to preliminary information, the aircraft experienced
some difficulty shortly after takeoff on Runway 19R and
subsequently impacted the ground, caught fire and burned.
Identities and condition of the crew are presently not being
released and will be held until confirmation of notification to
the families. Our thoughts are with the victims and their
families.

The flight develolpment aircraft was departing on a routine high
altitude test flight. Bombardier Aerospace senior management are
presently enroute to the company's Wichita facilities. Further
information on the accident will be provided at an update briefing
in the Media Centre at the Airport Hilton in Wichita at 9:30 p.m.
The company is cooperating fully with the FAA and the NTSB in the
investigation.
