100cfm: Light dawning on the attraction of i mode for wireless operators in Korea. The analogy is to AOL with PC's in the US.

i mode is a license to mint money by keeping the customer within the operators own system for many purposes such as games, restaurants, etc. and while just as AOL does, access to the web is possible, it is not absolutely necessary for many people.

In the US some people never leave AOL to get to the net. In Japan many people (particularly teenagers) never leave i mode to get to the net. So the operator has a captive customer in effect in the same way AOL has effectively hung on to captive customers for its ads and features who seldom if ever go through AOL to the net.

i mode is equivalent on the small wireless phone screen to AOL on the PC screen.

So access speed is not a major factor. i mode content is key.
