PERCUSSION SOFTWARE AND INFORMATION ARCHITECTS PARTNER TO OFFER B2B CONTENT DELIVERY SYSTEM
Collaborative Offering Will Enable Real-Time Content Aggregation, Management and Distribution of Any Data in Any Format
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - October 10, 2000 - Percussion® Software, the leader and innovator in next generation native XML content management solutions, and Information Architects® (iA), provider of real time data syndication and aggregation, today announced a partnership that will allow their customers to be the first to truly manage content in real time on the Internet.
The combination of iA's SmartCode® and Percussions' Rhythmyx® Content Manager enable companies to integrate content from disparate data sources and effectively manage and publish the content for various audiences in real time. In addition, Percussion will license iA's PDF-to-HTML converter in order to offer customers the ability to dynamically convert Adobe PDF files into HTML.
"Percussion's Rhythmyx native XML content management solutions, coupled with iA's SmartCode® Content Delivery Framework, will allow our customers to be the first to manage dynamic content," said Barry Reynolds, President and CEO of Percussion. "As the Internet grows, businesses will increase the amount of content they have and where they want that content moved. A flexible Java-based framework is essential to companies adapting to new architectures, and that is just what the Rhythmyx and SmartCode solution can offer."
Jupiter Communications predicts that online businesses will spend upwards of $350 billion on their Internet infrastructures by 2003. According to Forrester Research, 40% of businesses operating on the Internet believe that maintaining the "look and feel" of their own Web sites while guiding customers to the suppliers' Web sites is the largest obstacle on-line retailers face.
"As the market grows and matures, so do the challenges facing businesses in responding to the pressures and demands of their clients," said Robert Gruder, iA CEO and Chairman. "Businesses want a flexible way to quickly add, change, manage, and maneuver content. We believe this combined solution offers businesses a comprehensive way to manage the ever-increasing volume of information that otherwise would limit their growth on the Internet."
Both Rhythmyx and SmartCode support an open, flexible architecture. Rhythmyx utilizes XML and XSL as enabling technologies, complementing iA's SmartCode. The integrated solution leverages next-generation XML, XSL and Java technologies to provide companies with the means to more effectively develop, manage and deploy Web sites that enable information flow from any content source to any audience. No one else offers the combination of real time syndication and aggregation of content from any data source to any Web site or connected device -- browser, mobile phone or PDA -- with "on-the-fly" transformation to meet the formatting requirements of each site or device without having to repeat the business logic.
SmartCode aggregates and transforms disparate data, including PDF files, into standard HTML, XML or other markup languages without changing the content. Rhythmyx dynamically assembles and targets the content to be syndicated by SmartCode's Dynamic Syndication Server. SmartCode's Dynamic Syndication Server will support e-business solutions between the customer and their partners by creating partner-specific Web views from the enriched content management system.
As B2B companies deal with a huge legacy of PDF catalogs, those organizations seek the ability to take multiple types of content and view it in a single, seamless view, particularly in their supply chain. iA is the only company offering dynamic conversion of such documents into HTML. With its XML and XPath-based visual tools, PDF conversion enables legacy catalogs to be semantically fragmented and "blended" with other non-PDF sources. By combining the SmartCode Content Delivery Framework and the PDF converter with the Rhythmyx Content Manager, iA and Percussion will enable organizations to achieve dramatic savings in time and money by quickly adjusting their content and suppliers.
