Seldom Blue,

PC Growth

Thanks for coming to my defense, although I still feel like I am somewhat on shaky ground here. John has some important points. There are new software applications which may drive higher-end PC growth and voice recognition will definitely be a "killer app" for many businesses once the wrinkles are ironed out. I still don't see most households going out and buying voice recognition software as a must have.

The other point I wish to make is that many businesses, both large and small, upgraded their PC base last year. This was a MAJOR capital expense in my organization and the Y2K upgrade is clearly a one-time event that both spurred PC growth (via upgrades) in 1999 and will diminish interest on the corporate level for subsequent capital purchases in 2000 and 2001.

All IMHO.
