STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 11, 2000--

SmartServ And Microsoft To Demo Real-Time Financial Services Applications At Microsoft Exchange Conference

SmartServ Online(R), Inc. (Nasdaq:SSOL), a leading Web and wireless transaction platform services provider, today announced the deployment of its financial services application on the recently-announced Microsoft (Nasdaq:MSFT) Mobile Information 2001 Server (MIS) platform.
This deployment will bring real-time financial information and transaction capabilities right to the desktop or to any wireless device for enterprise customers or mobile network operators who are using the Mobile Information Server platform. It allows corporate applications for Windows and the Web to be mobile-enabled and securely accessed from any mobile device.
The SmartServ applications included in this third party development partnership comprise all of SmartServ's Web and wireless financial services offerings, including alerts, news, real-time financial information, stock quotes and research, as well as securities trading. It is estimated there will be one billion wireless Internet phones and devices by 2003. SmartServ's applications will be available to wireless users globally, including the 55 million users of Microsoft Exchange, who will access these services through a simple click on a "Services" icon at the bottom of the Microsoft Outlook screen in Microsoft Exchange.
"We are excited to be deploying this application on the heels of Microsoft's recent announcement of their new Microsoft Mobile Information 2001 Server," said Sam Cassetta, SmartServ's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "We have been working closely with Microsoft over the past year to develop this application and are looking forward to our live demonstrations at the Microsoft Exchange Conference."
"Our relationship with SmartServ will expand our product offerings to carriers, enterprises and our financial services industry customers," said Patrick Fox, director of marketing for the Mobility Group at Microsoft Corp. "SmartServ's application highlights many of the features in the Mobile Information Server, including end-to-end security and robustness for scalability in a trading environment."
Microsoft Mobile Information 2001 Server is a scalable and reliable mobile applications server that will provide enterprise customers and mobile network operators with a rich platform for delivering real-time mobile data services to any wireless device. Mobile Information Server is currently in trials with mobile operators and enterprise customers and is expected to ship in the first half of 2001.
SmartServ is currently building a network of global hosting service centers to serve the "always-on" worldwide financial markets. These centers are being created by SmartServ in close cooperation with Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HWP) to deliver Web and wireless e-services worldwide. The SmartServ and HP global services platform will include securities trading and trade order routing from any Web or wireless device directly to brokers/dealers for execution on worldwide electronic communications networks (ECN) of major exchanges. These services will be among those available to users of Microsoft Exchange as a result of the partnership being announced today.
