FWIW Sheikh Yamani was quoted by Reuters a month or so ago as saying that the end of the oil age is in sight because of OPEC's greed. He pointed out that the stone age did not end because we ran out of stones but because of technology. And he said the same would happen to oil because we would find alternate transportation (and presumably also boiler) fuels. A case can be made that the universe is basically wall to wall energy, we simply need to find out how to tap in to it.
