Of course david the American public may reconsider the "wisdom" of investing Social Security dollars in the market under the Bush plan as a result of this downdraft.

How stupid is this statement?
2%, 2%! in an investment vehicle for over 100 years thru depression and recessions, that has outperformed anything else.
Current rate of return on our SS money right now is 1-2%!

I would like to be able to opt out of SS, but that will never happen. So here is a compromise, Let me have the option of investing 50% of my retirement and you cut my payment by 50% and cut my benefits by 75%! I would sign up in a heartbeat.
