Well... you weren't around in the 80's so I can't help you there. Companies have intrisic value. This includes the underlying book value, products, patents, engineering talent, prospects, and goodwill. There will always be people willing to leverage this inherent value. I'll let you think about that for a while.... In bear market past the S&P has traded with a dividend yield of 9%. Perhaps Cisco will trade with a 9% yield. What share price would that be? "Those that don't study history are doomed to repeat it. Those that ignore history deserve to repeat it."
