Dave, <production level determined by wafer starts in JUly, August, September -- but when was last time AMD reiterated 7.2M>

August 3 - Toni reiterates 3.6M number Message 14159987

September 15 - "AMD's guidance has not changed. We remain on target to reach our previously stated goals. The analysts who downgraded the stock did so without having spoken with AMD." I emailed Toni to see if she really said it and she confirmed that she did. Actually, here is her exact post to me: "Yep! I said it...AMD's guidance has not..."

September 7 (this is the best one, IMO) - Message 14345465
Some key quotes:
I ended up speaking with John Greenagle instead of Toni Beckham because she was on vacation. He said at this point AMD is not seeing any slowdown in demand. I asked many pointed questions about inventory and inventory build-up and they are saying pretty much they have "work in process" inventory that is normal.

He also pointed to the guidance of ASP to increase to "greater than 100 in Q4" and I pointed out that Q2 had an ASP in the mid 90's, with Q3 reducing the K6's and Athlons doubling, its a lock for the ASP to be above 100 in 3Q. He responded:"that would be good if we achieve that".

So there you have it. On September 7, the guidance for ASP > $100 in Q4 was definitely reiterated, and it was said they were "not seeing ANY slowdown in demand."

Now, you tell me, would John Greenagle say that if AMD had cut their wafer starts for Q4? And Toni could have easily inserted the word "Q3" in front of "guidance" in all her reiterations, but she didn't.
