Re processor speed:

As a non-tech person (one of the guys Apple targets with the pretty computers), my concern with the processor speed issue is the public perception.

When people like me go shopping for computers, we look at the the processor (higher number good, lower bad) and the amount of RAM, and at the price tag. You want to get the most bang for your buck.

If AAPL falls too far behind (i.e., a 500mhz processor vs. a 1 ghz processor), I think it will hurt them in the consumer market, regardless of the actual merits of the processor. People will feel they aren't getting enough bang for the buck.

Maybe that is what AAPL is trying to address with the two processor deal, making the consumer feel like he's getting a bargain.
