There was a time when the management of a company would make moves that would benefit the company in a material way. Better cost structures, better coverage of a target market and so on.

This last move was a blatant and, yes greasy, move to attempt to "add to shareholder value."

This type of thinking is almost criminal. It is usually practiced by management personnel, who are themselves large shareholders. In a sense, it is use of their executive powers for the furtherance of their own gains rather than a clear advantage for the company.

Obviously this type of behavior is what makes all of the shareholders happy, AS LONG AS THE SHARE PRICE IS RISNG. Clearly this is not happening at the moment.

In effect most companies could be making popcorn for all the difference that it makes to the way those companies are run. All they care about is the share price and not the bottom line.

Once the crash has happened and the inevitable lawsuits have been filed, this is going to be one of the major complaints that the enraged investors will come up with.
