Alternative Fuel Systems to Develop Natural Gas System for New Cummins Engine

CALGARY, Oct. 11 /CNW/ - Alternative Fuel Systems Inc. ('AFS') announced
today it has accepted a new project to develop a dual fuel management system
to control the new Cummins ISC engine using compressed natural gas. The
Cummins Interact System ISC combines advanced electronic engine controls, high-
pressure fuel injection, and heavy-duty components to reach new levels in
power, fuel economy, reliability, and durability. AFS has achieved record
emissions and performance results using other engine platforms but the new
Cummins engine is expected to enable AFS to surpass its earlier results. Asked
by a customer to undertake this project, AFS already has orders lined up for
Cummins ISC versions of AFS' fuel management systems.
AFS President John C. Anderson said, "We are very excited about this new

Although AFS has produced great results using other engine platforms, we have
been restricted by the control limitations of the base engine. The full
authority control system of the Cummins ISC will allow AFS to utilize its
proprietary fuel management control strategies to more fully optimize power,
performance, and emissions."
The Cummins ISC is part of the IS engine platform series of engines
introduced by Cummins over the last two years. AFS anticipates AFS' natural
gas fuel management system will be a cost effective high performance natural
gas solution applicable to the whole platform of IS engines.
