Seriously, while I have serious (and boring) concerns about the way stuff gets marked to market/model, it isn't like firms can simply ignore the diminished value of their bond holdings until they sell them.

I think the financial sector has plenty of more serious problems, anyway. While I thought the spat between the OCC and the House Banking Cmte. this fall was overblown, I'm starting to get awfully curious about who got left holding the bag on some of these equity-related credits.
