"Q. I am currently looking for a PDA. I have looked at the Palm and
Handspring product lines. I was wondering if you have any suggestions or
if one is superior to the other. I am a complete tech novice.

A. Both products were developed by the same people and use the same
software, which is the Palm operating system and applications. You won't
go wrong with either, but there are significant differences. Palm has a
broader model lineup, including the sleek, slim Palm V; the Palm IIIc, with
a color screen; and the Palm VII, which has a built-in wireless modem.

However, Handspring's Visor has a very strong feature all its own: a
special, easy-to-use expansion slot that allows owners to pop in various
add-on modules. These were slow in coming, but now are finally arriving.
These include a cell phone, various wireless modems, MP3 music players,
and more. So, if you want style or built-in communications, go with Palm.
But if you want easy expandability, go with Handspring."
