That's a good example of why we need a right of freedom of speech. America, love it or leave it, huh? Isn't that a little cliche?

The truth is probably much more complex than any of us know. Unless we are trying to form some kind of weird cult about our own greatness, I think America should welcome self-examination. Boy-howdy, in my book we could use it. Otherwise, we are no better than the Soviet Union was.

Everyone I've ever known who's been quoted in a newspaper, myself quoted in 3 different papers, NOT ONCE did any reporter get it right. So you expect me to believe that the story we were taught in school, 230 years removed, extracted often from letters (gee, people never exaggerate do they, or are mistaken, or just plain lie), or "primary" news sources should be believed as absolute gospel... Get real.

Are you so fused with your patriotism and national identity that you just can see that we've done things that absolutely stunk? If you want the data, go look it up or ask for a reference. That's what civilized intelligent debate is about.
