Once the violence begins in the middle east -- the process of escalation is very difficult to stop. This gives inordinate power to people who would like nothing more than to drive a wedge between the Arab world and the western world -- particularly the US. We may think we have "friends" in the middle east, but the ties that bind go beyond oil and financial interests and have cultural significance that supercedes all other considerations. The net impact on our economy will be seen both in oil and in the stock market as a result of the impact of higher energy prices.
