I think that oil services are going to be a good long term investment. My bet is that we are going to get an energy policy and that somehow it will be beneficial for the deep water drillers and other U.S. oil interests, to stay in production even when oil prices are low.

I think that oil as a commodity is probably a short right now (but I am admittedly very uninformed on this topic). I think that the mideast situation will stop short of full engagement. I just don't believe that the mideast tensions are a random coincidence with the U.S. Elections. If you remember how the U.S. Population responded to Desert Storm, I would expect the population to rally around the current administration (and therefore Gore) if the U.S. decides to engage.

I believe that there is a concerted effort to hurt the U.S. economy and thus the current administration through the higher oil prices, but it this tactic will backfire if the U.S. gets involved militarily.
