If you are talking about a situation where money market assets in large money market funds are allowed to break the $1 share point, I don't think one based on treasuries is going to keep you safe.

Why do you say that? I can easily imagine that a money market fund invested in mortgage-backed or credit-card-backed paper could fall below $1 because of defaults in the underlying loans. Do you feel that a US Treasury MM fund has similar credit risks?
