michael- OT-

Well we do seem to have wandered into a curious backwater here. But I appreciate knowing that some find my OT comments worthwhile, despite the cavilling of certain other elements. However, I suppose we should try not to hijack the thread for OT purposes. Perhaps we can move this off line- there is an "Ask John Galt" thread on SI (it's pretty bad IMO).

However, I cannot resist a comment! Specifically, I want to dispute your depiction of Rand's philosophy as "survival of the fittest", at least not in the way that term is commonly applied. For Rand would in no way have countenanced the extermination of the "unfit" if it necessitated the use of force (as eliminating people normally does). She only would have denied any moral claim that they might have on wages of the "fit".

P.S. William Bennett (not one of my favorite commentators) wrote an article in WSJ yesterday about the shabby history of prevarications uttered by Al Gore. He is a liar in the Bill Clinton mode, and anyone who values integrity should not vote for the man. I don't want to post it, but if you or anyone else requests it via a PM I'll send a copy.

P.P.S. Rand would have excoriated all the candidates for president, with the possible exception of Harry Browne.
