One interesting piece of your chart is the period from 1930ish through 1933. It drops to levels not seen in roughly 35 years.

Insofar as the SPX was around 100 for a 15 plus year period in the 1970s such a retrace is not unprecedented. Isolate the period from 1923ish through 1930 and it looks a lot like the more impressive part of the chart, the overall run from the 1940's.

I think today is the anniversary of the initial "crash" of the 1987 and 1989 markets by the way. Funny co-incidence.

Not funny "Ha, Ha", of course, just funny cycle-wise.
