Easy there Richard.... More training for these everyday sailors wouldn't have helped....

If anything there needs to be a change of procedure and policy that now forbids civilian craft to approach with 100 meters of the ship. And even that would be hard to do (what are you going to do? Shoot the civilian boats if they get too close and ignite an incident?)

This was complacency across the service and since this is the first seaborne suicide attack I've heard of since the Japanese suicide boats of WWII, it's gonna just be one more thing we have to guard against, as well as a distraction that will keep our servicement forever on edge.

Again, Steven is right (although I think the military budget has been cut too much over the past 8 years).. more money would not have changed a thing.

This only had to do with complacency with the captain, as well as an intelligence failure to predict such an attack was being planned.

It would be like you going down and picking up a load of fertilizer and diesel fuel, hopping in a Ryder truck and blowing up a Federal Office building and then declaring that they needed more money or better training..

What they needed is better HUMINT assets infiltrated into these terrorist cells and quit relying so much on SIGINT. The terrorists know we're bugging every signal that is transmitted.

Additionally, if you complain too much, those encryption standards that you so wish to protect will be overturned in the interest of security.
