You are right in that the core list of stocks have to be rotated periodically, but it doesn't have to be done that often. In the end, people will play the same stocks for a few weeks or months before they move on, and so long as the going is good, then it's best to stick with the same candidates.

When I traded stocks, I used to "operate on the same patient" until the patient died, so to speak, and then move on.

You focus on trading only a couple of different patterns is also entirely correct. What are the patterns that you like? I basically trade tests and retracements.
