Aus, << Instead I think Eli will hammer the Q3 results home, give some perspective on SanDisk's master plan and then let the analysts' imaginations run wild.>> Well, that's pretty much what he did last quarter, and look at how the analysts' imagination ran--they basically ignored him. As I recall, they estimated this and next quarters' earnings at less than last quarters' earnings, despite Eli saying that Sandisk will have added capacity and sales. At least, those were the official, printed estimates.
The way things are going right now in the market, analysts' imaginations will lead them to Joseph's position--that the chip cycle is peaking, and next year will mark the beginning of a downturn with excess capacity. It looks like they won't differentiate between different segments of the chip market, I don't know why. Every flash company seems to be reporting that demand looks like it will hold up for at least the next 3 quarters, but the market isn't buying that line, for the moment at least.
I just saw pictures of the hole in the US destroyer, followed by pictures of the Israeli rocket hitting a building in the West Bank. It's so depressing that I just want to cry. What the hell does Barak think that this will do? The semi cycle may or may not be peaking, but the cycle of violence in the mideast seems to be rising. Fast. What a way to begin a new year.
