e-bill, If they lose sleep over this incident, unfortunate as it is, I have news for you. They should not be in the military. Now if they are losing sleep over conflict in Mid East, that is justified as it has potential to spread and suck US into the war. You do not need a big military to control terrorist attacks. You need a bigger and better intelligence network. That is where more resources are required. Present day US military is good to defend itself. A swift retaliation against supporters of aggressors is in order and US has means to do so.
