Yes, you can encode mpeg 200:1 vs JPEG which is 6:1 within the constraints of the parallel port. 1.15 Mb/sec is all you need to do vcd data rates. Yes, at 3 Mps it looks great! and the parallel port can handle this also. Ive seen it, and it looks great
all of the encoding processing is taken care of by the C-Cube chip including the VLC's which are usually burdened on the host. Not with Cube. only the sound compression is handled by the sound card.

Remember, mpeg is moving picture compression, JPEG is still image or single frame. Mpeg uses motion estimation, and other tricks to remove the redundancy of motion pictures.
