Comverse Demonstrates Video Messaging Over Nortel Networks' Live Prototype 3G Network
WOODBURY, N.Y. & BARCELONA, Spain--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 13, 2000--
Demonstration Of Video Messaging At The UMTS 2000
Conference Barcelona, October 11-13th
Comverse Network Systems, a division of Comverse Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: CMVT - news), and the world's leading supplier of software and systems enabling network-based enhanced services, today announced a demonstration of its 3G-capable unified messaging service, including video messaging, over Nortel Networks' UMTS network. The demonstration is being shown at the UMTS Conference, October 11-13 in Barcelona, Spain, at the Nortel Networks booth (no. 41).
Attendees at the show will be able to compose, send, and view video messages using a PC, in much the same way they do any other form of messaging. The attendee will be able to retrieve the demonstration message from an ``assigned'' mailbox, using Comverse's unified messaging system. The user can then access the mailbox and click to see the video message. A unique feature is the ability for the user to see the message instantly verses having to download the entire file before viewing it. Additionally, Comverse's video messaging service provides the user with the ability to listen to the audio portion of the message, using a traditional GSM handset via Comverse's media transcording functionality. This will offer users flexibility as 3G networks are built out.
Comverse's video messaging service is fully integrated into its unified messaging system, providing consolidated status of the user's inbox, immediate notification, and the ability to retrieve all messages (video, voice, email and fax) from any kind of device (2G/3G handsets, PC, TV, PDAs, etc.). Users are able to forward and reply to video messages in the same way they do for other message types, such as voicemail or email.
Comverse is developing advanced messaging applications on evolving third generation wireless networks, such as Nortel Networks'. Its unified messaging solution leverages open IP architecture, is scalable, flexible, and satisfies the reliability requirements of service providers. This will enable service providers to offer a portfolio of next generation messaging services to their subscribers, facilitating the migration from today's network applications to 3G multimedia messaging services (MMS). Additionally, Comverse offers service providers the ability to leverage their existing infrastructure investment and ensure the seamless deployment of 3G revenue-enhancing multimedia applications and services.
