QCOM had fundamental patents for an industry, which included products (GSM) which competed with their own (CDMA) A lot of people were sceptical until they prevailed in court. At least in Europe nobody wanted CDMA, but they all ended up paying royalties. Sound familiar? Sorry I can't take you up on the bet, I've put too much into RMBS.
