Rambi, those calling themselves "pro-life" are often the most bigoted parts of our society. I have just seen one of the most racist ads in this campaign by Buchanan, a "pro-lifer" for life. But xenophobic Buchanan will also gets our troops home to man the Mexican border so as to seal it against "illegal immigration". So, for those pro-life friends, here is a little mental exercise.
Assume that their opinion prevails, and thus we impart the protection of the constitution on a fetus from its conception (the "right to life") like any other citizen, thus changing the laws of citizenship in the US (currently birth in this country or any of the various legal immigration statutes, including the right of a "foreigner" to become a US citizen if his child is an American born citizen).
Here is a business proposition: We build some special low cost motels (hotels) near airports and other ports of entry, and promote to young foreign couples that desire to become US citizens, but currently, for whatever reason cannot, to come in and visit for two three weeks (during the right time of the months of course) on "visitors" visa. Then we give them a certificate of their stay on US grounds, and if 9 month later, it turns out that the visit was "fruitful", they declare their newborn and themselves "US citizen" under the same law that would provide "protection of the constitution" to the "unborn fetus".
My bet is that 80% of the xenophobic pro-lifer will find 100 reasons why that action will violate our immigration laws.
Frankly, I think that the "pro choice" movement should get a case like that through the courts to get it adjudicated as to the question of the application of constitutional rights to the unborn fetus.
