Joe Re..<<<I think this stock will be dead until there is some guidance for the analysts for 2001.<
Joe, while I agree analysts need guidance, I also feel many analysts have their own agenda and try to interpret the data they are given in such a light that it conforms their objectives. For instance, Niles said he had question about AMD's flash and possible price war. While a price war is possible, as we have seen in the 3q-00, AMD completely out manuvered Intel, such that in a slow quarter, AMD MANAGED TO make their numbers in units sold and EPS. Intel didn't but yet Niles is worried about AMD, not Intel. Niles said AMD is performing well, Intel hasn't been, but it is AMD that he is worried about. He agrees that the T-bird and Duron outperforms PIII and they are cheaper, but AMD will have a hard time in a price war. Give me a break. We all know price and performance sells, but his conclusion is just the opposite. Why Because he has an agenda, and no amount of guidance will change it, unless he has a compelling reason to change it. His fellow investors have too much to lose if he says AMD will gain market share and Intel is losing it; therefore until he sees cpu sales picking up, AMD will be his fall guy.
What probably will force analysts to recognize AMD more than an analysts conference is sales data showing amd is gaining market share in Europe and ASIA. That with Intels admitted loss of sales in Europe just may force the Niles of the world to take notice. |
