RE:"A further problem is that the Internet AMD cheerleader sites are all trumoeting that the Durong is a MUCH better value than the AthWiper - and nearly as fast - so the core of AMD's customer base - which reads these sites - is now shifting to DEMAND the Durong - and that will drive AMD's ASPs lower - rather than higher."

That's what they thought about the Pentims vs the Celeron. As much as we knocked Intels segmentation strategy...IT WORKED...mainly because of the Mhz differences. IT EVEN WORKED WHEN, clock for clock,
the Celeron was a fast as the Pentium II.
As long as AMD differentiates the Mhz it will work for AMD. A Duron is simply not "as fast" as a Thunderbird.
Also, the "Dugong" is cheaper to produce (smaller die size than t-bird) unlike the laser zapped Celerons that are really Pentium IIIs.

Sure notebooks are an increasing problem but AMD still has about 50% of the retail notebook market...but not more than about 10% of the corporate market. Yep, it's going to diminish as Intel raises the Mhz of mobile pentium IIIs and AMD will be left to scrape the bottom until it can get a mobile Duron core out there...
OTOH, what's the mobile market compared to the desktop market about 5%? More. Youu said once it was 20%, this seems real high...you got a link or two?

SMP? Yeah, no doubt AMD is dragging there...and we all wish we knew why...as MP on the EV6 bus shouldn't be that hard and the Athlon core was supposedly designed with up to 14 way SMP in mind.
OTOH, what % of boxes are SMP?
