Chuck, Add-in graphics card is completely unacceptable for Duron target market. I think that statement is only valid for the lowest one third of the Duron's market - the sub-$600-700 segment. Shouldn't AMD be positioning the Duron as better than a Celeron and equivalent to a P3 at equivalent speed? Selling into the "cheapo segment" risks K6izing the Duron in customers' minds. Anyhow, VIA expects to make this basal segment their territory soon. Do you think that they might have a conflict of interest in preparing a chipset with UMA graphics? I do. It will be pointless if AMD accelerates the MHz ramp for the Durons, but then fails to up-sell them to the OEM's as P3 replacements. This is where broad-based (TV, magazine, Newspaper, etc) advertising of the Duron brand to the consumer might really pay off IMHO, but they have to be careful to not pull the high-end consumers away from the Athlon. I hope AMD has diverted plenty of assistance resources from helping VIA to ALi and SiS for low-end and mobile chipsets. I would be even happier if I knew AMD had a high-end mobile chipset in the works - either in-house or subcontracted with a competent design organization. I see that high-end laptops serving as desktop replacements could be a potential lever to pry open the commercial market. AMD had better be viewing this as the real battleground in '01. Dave
