Changing frequencies is a major pain.
When you in the 2.4ghzts range all sorts of things have to be changed, like antennae sizes and power outputs.
Interestingly enough, there is a 5 ghzts wireless standard out there. It actually runs at 22Mb as opposed to 11mb.
I don't think they will be able to us a lower frequency and if they go higher, they start running in to LOS problems.

Doesn't sound likely to me.
