LightPointe Communications Inc., the world's leading provider of hybrid laser/microwave systems that enable businesses in metropolitan areas to quickly and cost-effectively connect to fiber-optic networks, today announced that it has acquired a Dresden, Germany manufacturing facility from Teleconnect GmbH.
Through the acquisition, the Optical Products Division of Teleconnect GmbH becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of LightPoint Communications, Inc. and assumes the name LightPointe Europe, GmbH.
The acquisition gives LightPointe more than 30 years of knowledge, patents and experience in free-space optical networking products and development. It also provides a geographically strategic location from which LightPointe can deploy optical networking products and entire systems tailored to meet the needs of European customers.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed. LightPointe was assisted by the Industrial Investment Council, an agency established by the German government to promote and support investment in the New German States.
LightPointe is headquartered in San Diego with an Advanced Networking Center in Boulder, Colo. LightPointe's proprietary, patent-pending technologies are protocol-independent and have been tested in diverse climatic conditions in both rooftop configurations and through glass. The company's products range from the flagship Free-Space Optical Radio Communication Equipment or FORCE(TM), to the GigaLink(TM) systems. They encompass speeds up to 1.25 Gbps (in advanced beta test) and operate at ranges up to 4,000 meters at a wavelength of 850nm. |
