North Korea is a poor shattered nation with some old Soviet era weapons. We have them checkmated already in South Korea. You are simply paranoid or something. North Korean soldiers only venture into South Korea looking for rice to eat. their people are starving and they have no more Soivet empire to support them. just like Cuba they are impoverishing and hanging on by a thread. totally isolated and without a hope or a prayer unless they open themselves up to the West and give it up. China wouldn't even come to their rescue now that we've given China free-trade status. way too much to lose to defend a lot cause. if they could launch a missile it couldn't go very far and the retaliation would destroy them very quickly. it would be just plain suicide. totally pointless. the only threats we face now are isolated terrorist attacks and ethnic tensions. doesn't mean we shouldn't have a strong military but definitely do not waste 400 billion on a useless non-functioning missile defence system. plus that tab would be put right on our national credit card. all new longterm debt. and higher interest debt if Bush gets elected with his inflationary tax-cut plans.
