Art, first of all. Not everyone who sends their children to private schools are rich. Second, property taxes have skyrocketed in most areas of the country. Most people don't want them any higher, and want to see a better return for their money. It has next-to-nothing to do with being rich or the schools. Homeowners come from all income levels. Especially, the middle class.

What you seem to be saying is that private enterprise solutions are ruining our government schools. Just the opposite is true. Private schools raise the bar of excellence, so that public schools have something to shoot for. You seem to want to get rid of private schools and dumb every child down to the public school level.

Seriously Art. Are you a socialist? Because what you have just said sounds like it came right out of the the communist manifesto.

The goal is to reach-for-the-stars and demand the same, or nearly the same level of excellence from our public schools. Every child deserves a decent education. If the government school is failing our poor children, and the parents need some help, we should find ways of providing them the help. Vouchers do that.

The last thing we need to do is remove all competition from our government schools. Where would the "urgency to change" come from? If we've learned anything from communist and socialist nations its this. Government monopolies lead to decay, stagnation and poor results. Excellence comes from private enterprise. Therefore, linking government monopolies to private enterprise is the logical first step toward improvement.
